Princess Tutu Fansub Notes
From Chris:
A.F.K's Fansub Notes
"Prince Siegfried is the main character in Tchaikovsky's "Swan
Lake" ballet.
"Seigfried is also a principle character in Richard Wagner's 'Ring
of Nibelung' operas.
"An excerpt from Siegfried's funeral march in Wagner's 'Twillight
of the God's' has been featured in the series since Act 10.
"Wagner also named one of his son's Siegfried, and a short musical
piece he wrote for his wife has become known as 'Siegfried idyll.'
"'Siegfried Idyll' has been used as a character theme in 'Princess
Tutu' since Act 5. It is the first piece played in the opening
confrontation of Act 26.
"In a 1911 production of Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake,' a new solo dance
was introduced for the role of the prince Siegfried. The solo was
preformed by Vaslav Nijinsky to the music of "The Dance of the Sugar
Plum Fairy,' from the Nutcracker.'
"In the opening scene of Act 1, Ahiru sees the prince dancing alone
to 'The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy' in her dream.
"Like Neko sensei's mentor Nyajinski in Act 14, the somewhat
androgynous Nijinsky was known for his gravity defying leaps.
"One of Nijinsky's most famous and controversial performances was
choreographed for Debussy's 'Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.'
"In Act 17, the somewhat androgynous Femio preforms a dance for the
elementary class, to the music of 'Prelude to the Afternoon of a
Faun.'"
