Now at first, one might think the use of the pentacle went back to European pagan magic, but since the elements that are referenced are the Eastern elements and all the magic and legends
in the movie are Japanese, I'm going to say it's a pretty safe bet the use of the pentacle and pentagram in the film is from the Taoist branch of magic. The symbol is used as both a seal and a focus
for spells and power later by Kaguya. The seal is made by joining the points of the five lakes around Mt. Fuji, and is the symbol that appears over her image in the sealing mirror. The elements each point represents
are water, fire, earth, metal, and wood. (The most ready example I can think of where the Eastern elements are used in magic comes in the powers
of the senshi in Sailor Moon). The elements are represented as well in the five items gathered:
Stone bowl of buddha - earth
Robe of the fire rat - fire
Cowrie shell - water
Branch placed at the sealed mirror's shrine - wood
Jewel of a dragon's neck - metal
Soi's Power in Fushigi Yuugi
Soi uses sexual intercourse to give or take energy from her partners. It is possible this ability is based on the Taoist branch of internal alchemy known as sexual alchemy. In this practice all
desire and arousal must be absent and the sexual act used with the explicit purpose of taking energy from the partner into oneself to restore one's generative energy.

To create this Goku takes immense ammounts of energy from the Earth. This technique is probably influenced by Taoist practice that regenerates energy by the practicioner
absorbing energy from nature and celestial bodies. This might be done by absorbing energy directly from the sun, moon, mist, or the soil and earth itself, and rocks. Absorbing light
and energy by such means is one way to restore spirit energy. And this is the kind of energy Goku gathers when he needs the most strength.
