Elements to ...
Eclipse
From Karura Mau OVA 6. It is during the eclipse that the story climaxes and Mihuyu tries to fulfill her plans. The spirits of the dead look to be at full power, or it may be the energy in the tree is peaking as well. But the eclipse seems to have some kind of force. At the complete eclipse spirits come back on her and she's being consumed by them. At the end she dies as an old white-haired woman, the power of the ningyo not taking effect on her.
Egg
In alchemy the egg was equated with the philosopher's stone, "it contains everything in
itself and needs no addition... Giving birth out of itself without addition, it symbolizes the
innermost nucleus of the individual, the Self, to which we cannot add or take away"
(Franz, 265). It is also a symbol of renewal or the possibility of new life. Many world
myths include an egg in the creation of the world. This fits more with the Student Council
speech of the Utena series. For Nanami's episode, her egg may well represent her period. Comments
relating to her being late to lay her egg, or Juri's maturity at a young age seem to suggest
that it's more than just a fun episode, that maybe it also implies the time of young girl's
puberty.
For Berserk: The Beherit Griffith wears is known as the Egg of the King. In the final episode it is revealed the beherits are frozen tears, hearts of those whose suffering has reached its peak.
Griffith sees his own last teardrop he cried, and a demon narrates as Griffith is drifting in his dream that while transform him: "When a person faces suffering so great that it can tear them in two their
heart freezes. They are splashes off waves in the ocean of the other world. A droplet of the future. A calling from the other side." The beherit Griffith wore throughout the series was probably formed this way.
A frozen tear of another, created at the very moment their heart froze and humanity was lost. The beherit gives the bearer the chance leave behind humanity. Those possessing beherits become
demons at the end of their journey, but for Griffith as he holds the Crimson Beherit, it will qualify him to become an "angel." That which is beyond human, but terrible in this instance. Above
the demons, but of the dark aspect, ruling above them. The "Egg" represents this as well. It is Griffith's means of transformation, his birth to Femto, the embodiment of all the suffering Griffith experiences
through his life. Notice by the end he can not speak, his body is too weak. But his heart is still overcome by everything around him, everything he's done up to the end in his life, and having the full
realization fall upon him. The eyes of the beherit open at this, and weeps tears of blood, Griffith does the same. They are Griffith's tears, the only expression he can give, and when he has
shed the last, it will crystalize to a beherit and that beherit will be passed to another. Up to this point, the eyes remained closed of the Egg of the King, sleeping. Perhaps Griffith himself, his unconscious, slept.
In his friendship with Gatts he forgot the castle and forgot the suffering that resulted from the sacrifices he made of people. But on losing Gatts, and seeing the God Hand, the Egg wakes, as all Griffith
struggled to forget comes to his mind's surface and all is conscious to him.
Ego Border in Neon Genesis Evangelion
The center of the conscious personality of the individual. In ep. 20, Shinji was said to lose his Ego Border, and thus was taken into the Eva and floating in the entry plug, formless.
Elysian
Storms and snow never fell there. Elysian had its own stars and sun. It was always peaceful and happy. In the beginning, only children of gods were allowed, but later the souls of the just or favorites of gods, were as well. In Sailor Moon, this is the abode of Elios, and when not ravaged by the Dead Moon Circus, if can fit the first part of the description. Also, some believe that all that exists is sustained by inner spirit. This reminds me of Elios, spiritual guardian and sustainer of Endymion's kingdom.
Emishi
Name for the northern aborigines of Japan, also called Ebisu or Ezu, up into the 8th century. The Emishi are discussed in Princess Mononoke.
Emperor's New Clothes
From John, ep. 16 of Utena, Cowbell of Happiness, could be a reference and a twist on the story of the Emperor's New Clothes.
Endymion
Son of Aethlios (one version says Zeus and Calyce).
Endymion served as both king and founder of Elis, after taking the region's throne. He had three sons (Epeus, Aetolus, and
Paeon) and a daughter (Eurydice) by his wife (Asterodia, Cromia, or Hyparippe depending on the source). To determine
which son would follow him, Endymion had them run a race in the Olympia, Epeus won. The famous
myth surrounding him involves the Moon goddess Selene who fell
in love with him. She found him asleep in a cave or upon the hill of Mount Latmos, and
loved him. Some sources say Selene put Endymion to sleep
to visit and embrace him every night, others claim it was so he
would never age or die. With Selene he had fifty daughters (symbolic of the fifty lunar
months between the Olympic games). Other sources say that the Endymion of the Selene myth is a hunter or a shepherd. But
in all versions he is a youth of great beauty, who Selene falls in love with upon seeing him. Those of Elis claimed he was buried
at Olympia, others say he still sleeps in the cave on Latmos.
In BSSM, Endymion is a young prince of Earth who falls in
love with the princess of the Moon, Serenity, their characters
being based on the lovers above.
Eternal Youth (Shoujo Kakumei Utena)
Puer aeternus, an eternal youth, "a God of constant rejuvenation who does not reach
adulthood." Also God of rebirth. "With the power of the Great Mother behind him, he
maintains eternal youth through repeated death and rebirth." (Kawai, 90). This reminds me a
little of Dios/Akio. Never aging, relying on Anthy's power, possibly moving through
cycles of death and rebirth.
It is said in psychology that the eternal youth may spend his time in the unconscious world, and therefore
will not age. This is a bit like Akio who has built up his own world inside the academy, and will
not break out of it or age. This can apply to other characters too like Anthy and Mikage,
who are also trapped in a singe memory, the unconscious, and for them time does not
pass.
Eva Units in Neon Genesis Evangelion
The word Evangelion (Greek) means "good message," English gospel. The overall image of it was supposed to be based on the
oni (from Japanese legend, devils often of giant size). Eva is what the Evangelions are called for short. Eva is both the German and the
Latinate of Eve. In Genesis, Eve and Adam were the first humans. In some versions of the story, Eve was made the second wife
of Adam after Lilith refused to submit to him. Adam and Eve were later driven from the Garden of Eden after eating from the fruit of
good and evil.
The Evas in Neon Genesis Evangelion are used by the organization NERV to fight the Angels invading Earth. The Evas look like giant
robots, but that is in fact from the bindings placed on them. They are alive, and were created by Man in his image. They are actually human.
Eva-00: Pilot is Ayanami Rei, First Children.
Eva-01: Pilot is Ikari Shinji, Third Children. The soul of Ikari Yui seems to be inside Eva-01. On more than one occasion, the Eva has
moved of its own will, without power of any kind, to protect Shinji or help him. In ep. 19, when Shinji and the Eva synch more than
400%, it is even able to awaken and break its binding. In the next episode, when it is learned Shinji was taken into the Eva, not only
did he see images of Rei, Misato, and Asuka, but his mother appears to him and he senses a human smell, that of his mother.
Eva-02: Pilot is Soryu Asuka Langley, Second Children. At the end of the series, it is taken over by Nagisa Kaoru, Fifth Children, who
is actually the last Angel.
Eva-03: Pilot is Suzuhara Toji, Fourth Children. This Eva is taken over by the Thirteenth Angel and destroyed by Eva-01 in ep. 18.
Eve
In Genesis, Eve and Adam were the first humans. In some versions of the story,
Eve was made the second wife of Adam after Lilith refused to submit to him. Adam and Eve were later driven from the Garden of Eden

Eva is both the German and the Latinate of Eve. The Evas

They are actually human.
The young heroine Eve from the movie E.Y.E.S. of Mars seems to be named from the biblical Eve. She in a sense becomes a mother figure to humans in her championing of love and care
for the environment, and in the end in her involvement with the spiritual migration of humanity to Earth.
Eve of the Megazone 23 films also seems a mother figure in her protection of fellow humans, and her connection to creation and life. In the third film it's explained that humans destroyed their old
environment and for their sin were thrust into outer space. The Eden system begins a process of rebuilding Earth and creating a last paradise for humans. When the system becomes inbalanced it tries to
cleanse itself of the humans again by aiming the Earth defense system (called Adam) on the moon at the city. Eve as one of the original creators hopes for a bright future for humanity and ultimately
gives her own life willingly to protect the future of the Earth and its people. As she is filled with life data she knows the system will then accept humans.
Eye of Horus
The Eye of Horus, the right represented the sun and the left the moon. Horus lost his left eye to his brother Seth but managed to recover it later. The eye became
a symbol of protection against evil or darkness It was also known as the "all-seeing eye." Note it is Pegasus' left eye that is replaced by the Millenium Eye,
and he uses it to see the cards and moves of other players in Yu-Gi-Oh.
Set and Horus were known to battle each other as the forces of light and dark. This may be an inspiration for the rivalry of Seto and the Pharoah/Yugi. It began 5,000 years ago and as
Isis narrates to Seto the events are being played out again in his time.
