Amanda's Saint Seiya Notes
The following entries for Saint Seiya are all provided by Amanda Alvis, who I give a very big thank you to.
Aioria
Gold Saint Leo Aioria. Friend to Silver Saint Aquila Marin and brother to the now deceased former Sagittarius, Aiorios.
Bronze Saint Andromeda Shun
Birthday: September 9th(Virgo), blood
type:O. Attacks have to deal with stars or power from nebulas.
Andromeda-daughter of the vain queen Casseiopia; princess of the Greek island, Crete. Was once
chained to a rock in which a kraken tried to swallow her, but of whom
was saved by Perseus. Shun and Seiya are the two youngest guys on the lower
end of the Athena Saints team.
Bronze Saint Cygnus Hygoa
Birthday: January 23(Aquarius), blood
type:O. "Hygoa"-means ice river. Achieves the 7th sense which is located and
manifested through the crown chakra of the human body in Indian
mysticisim. Also achieves the unattainable cold power of "Absolute Zero"- the
surpreme cold power. Attacks mainly deal with Artic weather and temperatures as
well as the Northern Lights. Cygnus- the constellation in the northern
hemisphere which its name is Greek for "swan".
Bronze Saint Dragon Shiryu
Birthday: October 4th(Libra), blood type:
A. "Shiryu"-means purple dragon. Attacks deal with asiatic dragons and the
Excalibur sword. Excalibur- sword of King Arthur; son of Urther
Pendragon and Igraine, father of the illegitimate son, Mordred, by his sister
Morgawese. Half-brother to Moriggan Le Fay. This very sword was
presented to King Arthur after the sword in the stone broke, and Excalibur took it's
rightful place within Arthur's palm and scabbard. It was later returned
to the Lady of the Lake upon Arthur's death by Sir Bevidere as Arthur's
spirit was sent into the land of apples, Avalon. Dragon-asiatic dragons, but
this dragon was named for the sign Draco,in which is named after the dragon
Ladon who tended the Garden of the Hespirdes as well as guarded it.
Bronze Saint Pegasus Seiya
Birthday: December 1st(Sagitarrius),
blood type: B. "Seiya"-means star arrow, shooting star, or meteor. Pegasus-
the winged horse who came from Medusa's dead body's blood after she was
slain by Perseus. Pegasus's brother is the Chysoar. Pegasus is usually ridden by
Bellerpheron.
Canes Venaciti (Greyhound) Asterion
A Silver Saint who checks on Lacerta Misty's progress.
Crystal Saint
A Silver Saint who taught Hygoa. He was trained by Gold Saint Aquarius Camus. Now lives in the harsh, cold wilderness of Siberia.
Delphins
The Dolphin constellation. The armor colors more likely fit an orca or killer whale, don't you think?. Thoroughly speculation.
Docrates
Giant fire elemental serving under Ares. Sent to try and steal parts of the Gold Cloth remaining in Saori's care on a few occassions. Equivelant to a Silver Saint, he has his own disciples and is related to Ophiuchus Shaina's disciple, Cassios. Because of his famililial relations, he has a great hate of Pegasus Seiya.
Ghost Saint Geist
Geist is German for "ghost". Ophiuchus Shaina's sister. Able to cast realistic illusions. Killed by Pegasus Seiya when he recovers the Sagittarius helmet that she and her protoges had stolen. Equivelant to a Silver Saint. Has her own protoges- Eel, Kraken, and Dolphin.
Gigas
Not a Saint,exactly. Gigas is one of Ares' aide-de-camps and chief leiutenant of Ares' armies. He sends the Black Saints on their missons to steal the Gold Sagittaruius cloth. Ares replaces him after he grows tired of him and his failed missons.
Hades
God of the dead and the underworld; brother to the Greek god of heaven, Zeus. Wed and stole "privacy" from the goddess of Spring, the daughter of Demeter, Persephone. He isn't cruel as people in ancient times depicted him to be, he is a fair and just ruler over the manes(spirits of the dead).
Hydrus
"The Sea-Snake"constellation. Powers include: a nasty electric shock and possibly more. Thoroughly speculation.
Hypnos and Thanatos
The twin gods who were mothered by Gaia and fathered by Erebus. They are the gods of sleep and death, respctively. In the manga, they serve under Hades as his leaders of state and army. They also serve under Hades in Greek mythology.
Incendiary Saint
Follows orders of Ares. More of a fire elemental than a Saint. Cloth may be that of Fornax, the Furnace constellation.
Kyoto-Judges, the 3
a.k.a the 3 judges of the Underworld, Rhadamnythys, Aiacos, and Minos. In the manga, they serve the same purpose as the 3 judges of the Underworld tribunal as in Greek mythology. In the manga, Minos's name is Griffin Minos. Griffin a.k.a Gryphon- the gryphon is an animal used in mythology and heraldry with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion. Aiacos's aname in the manga is Garuda Aiacos. Garuda- in Hindu mythology, this was the eagle in which Vishnu, the preserver, rode on with Padma Lakshimi, in order to survey the earthly plane.
Lacerta Misty
a.k.a "The Silver Saint" or "Misty". One of Ares' most skilled assasians. Looks like a woman-but is actually male.
Marin
Her name means "demon bell". She is Pegasus Seiya's sensei while in Greece, who taught him how to harness the "power of the microcosm" in the Pegasus Metor Punch. Wears black and red and has a silver face mask. She is Silver Saint Aquila Marin. Aquila-"the Eagle".
Master of Sanctuary
Gold Saint Gemini Saga's triplet brother. When Ares posseses Saga, the Gold Gemini Saint, and forces him to kill the Master of Sanctuary, his own brother.
Ophiuchus Shaina
Long-time rival of Aquila Marin and one of Pegasus Seiya's most violent enemies. Fell in love with Seiya, but he never noticed her. Wants to become the best female fighter in Sanctuary. Ophiuchus-means "serpent holder". This is her cloth constellation. It is the lost 13th sign of the Zodiac and is between the two signs of Scorpio and Sagittarius. Its element is Quintessence, or spirit.
Phaeton
Apollo's son who took his father's chariot out for a ride and crashed into the ocean below him. In the anime, he dispatched Shaina, Perseus Algol, and Spartan to kill Pgasus Seiya and his fellow Bronze Saints.
Poseidon
God of the Oceans. Married to the nymph, Amphrite. Brother to Zeus. Athena's uncle and arch-rival; competed with her for the naming and ownership of Athens. Amphrite, his wife, bore several nerids and oceanids as their children. In the anime, he is related to Gold Saint Gemini Saga and is one of his three brothers. He was in love with Saori Kiddo/Athena, but after being rejected, he became her enemy.
Roshi
His name means "aged teacher". He is Shiryu's sensei and is also extremely powerful. He is also Gold Saint Libra Roshi. He lives in a hermit-like existence with his daughter Shunrei in the mountains of Central China.
Saints
In Greek mythology, they are the bodygaurds of a specific god
or goddess within the Greek mythological pantheon.
There is 3 levels of Athena's own Saints:
1) Bronze- lowest power level
2) Silver-next highest power level
3) Gold- the #1 high power level
*Steel Saints aren't real saints at all; they are man-made.
Saori Kiddo/Athena
a.k.a. Tritogenia(born from Triton), Pallas
Athene, Parthenos(virgin), or Glaukopis(blue-eyed). bloodtype: A. Mother: Metis, Titaness
goddess of wisdom and cunning. Father: Zeus, the youngest of the 12 Olympians
of Mount Olympus, of whom had 115 mistresses, 3 wives(all at different
times!), and 140 children. Metis was his 1st wife, Themis was his 2nd wife, and
Hera, his youngest sister, was his 3rd and final wife. Metis was swallowed by
her first and only husband, but her child, Athena, grew inside of Zeus.
Hephaestus,the patron of the arts and of blacksmithing, acted as the
midwife to her birth. Hephaestus struck Zeus's head with a sharp bronze axe,
which Athena lept out of her father's skull with a war cry that shook the
heavens, the earth, the oceans, and probably billowed down into the underworld.
She's the goddess of wisdom, defensive war, strategy, spinning, and of
invention. Later, she became her fater's favorite child as so by birth, and in
turn bears her father's sheild, the Aegis.
Serpens
The Kraken constellation for the Kraken armor. Thoroughly speculation.
Specters
a.k.a ghosts. In the Hades Saga of the Saint Seiya manga, there are 108 specters in all. In the anime, there are 25 specters in all.
Surplices
"A loose-fitting broad sleeved white vestment over the cassock in some churches." This is quoted from the Random House Dictionary, pg. 892. It can also be described as a white fine linen that goes from the shoulders to the waist.
